Ten things about Glastontelly

The Cowardly Lion was glad to be back in Oz
I've never been to Glasto, and now that we have comprehensive (of sorts) coverage on the Beeb I doubt I'll bother - the sofa's far too comfy to be honest and my flat is slightly less muddy.

The coverage this year was pretty good though it still manages to be both extremely lengthy and not covering nearly enough.  They do still have a decent number of full sets on their microsite though so I've linked to those when I can.  So, a few random observations...

1)  U2 have well and truly been kicked into the old dinosaur category now to keep The Stones company.  Whatever you think of Coldplay, their headline performance the next day in contrast made them look like up and coming, hungry whippersnappers.  And Bono couldn't stop the rain.

2)  The Go! Team were a blast.  They should be far, far bigger than they are y'know.  And their lead singer is an absolute star in the making.  Perfect for when the sun started to shine.

3)  The Horrors are probably the best band Britain have at the moment and I am so looking forward to their new album that I might burst (I'll give you fair warning though).  They even decided to play five new songs off the forthcoming album out of the eight in total - brave chaps those Horrors.

4)  Morrissey has definitely still got it - and still looks good in a frilly shirt.  Sound quality was a bit dodge though.

5)  The lead singer of Two Door Cinema Club reminds me of George Daws.  That is all.

6)  I never really got into Warpaint a year ago or so when they were being touted about as the next great female-fronted band.  Watch their performance and completely fall in love with them like wot I did.

7)  There's something overly artificial about a band replacing a female, standing drummer with another female standing drummer.  Just one of the reasons that Glasvegas are losing their lustre for me.

8)  Janelle Monae - potentially slicker than Beyonce?  And without a head-scrtaching and distracting Tricky guest appearance.

9)  Did Kool and The Gang really deserve to take up a 1 hour 40 minutes showcase on BBC4?

10)  The acts that stole the show though just have to be Everything Everything not least for the yellow wellies and the scattergun delivery just working so well on stage and Primal Scream  who made their 20 year old songs from Screamadelica sound fresh, vital and frankly better than ever.

Quite a lot to choose from really and a shame it'll be resting next year - can't quite see me writing about Paula Radcliffe's performance in quite the same way (even if her toilet habits are likely to be not unlike that of thousands at Glastonbury anyway).
